For other than EEOC-protected classes of people (and as covered by a few state regulations), an employer can set its own criteria and requirements for employment.  Some find or believe the risks and liabilities of hiring those who use or abuse drugs are high enough to forego a few "overly-hydrated" individuals to carefully screen out those who might skirt by otherwise.

Society is full of double standards - demanding justice against some when lack a some strong standard potentially allowed a mishap and calling for compassion, grace and abandonment when a standard is set.  I believe there needs to be some variation and freedom allowed even when not popular or politically correct.
