I recently took a hair test and was stunned as to the procedures used by the collector. First of all, he did not wear gloves nor did he wash his hands first. He then started to cut and actually plucked some of my hair from the back of my head as it fell on top of his desk in the waiting room. He then used his hand to slide it into the envelope and sealed it with at least 2 inches of my hair sticking out on each side. I was told that the test only required an inch and a half, but he collected at least 6 to 7 inches of hair and some scalp. What is the proper collection procedure? And can hair get contaminated, like the ones sticking out of the envelope? Also,I was told that the hair test is not to good in discriminating between current and past use. Thanks!
