You are still required to have a copy of Copy 1 (the lab copy) when you are reporting out a verified test result. You do not need this copy for confirmed (not verified) negative results. Please note that in 49 CFR §40.129(b), the word "must" is present; you must have in your possession. Before you report a verified negative, positive, test cancelled, refusal to test because of adulteration or substitution, you must have in your possession the following documents:

(1) Copy 2 of the CCF, a legible copy of it, or any other CCF copy containing the employee's signature; and

(2) A legible copy (fax, photocopy, image) of Copy 1 of the CCF, containing the certifying scientist's signature.

This is not required (unless by state law) with non-DOT results.
