Prolonged marijuana excretion due to hepatitis?

I work for a correctional facility that does on-site immunoassay urine testing. We have an offender under our supervision that had a urine sample test positive for THC approximately 2 ½ months ago. The offender had another sample test positive for THC 52 days after the initial screen. Though he produced several samples that tested negative for all substances between these two, he is claiming that the positive is residual use that did not show up due to the fact that he has hepatitis C.  Is this possible?
