Use of certain antibiotics can interfere with the ability of certain immunoassays to obtain valid results. For readers who may be unaware, I point out that the use of the antibiotic would not cause a negative drug test result, but may instead cause the assay to not work properly and thus provide an invalid result. In these instances, the laboratory may "get around" the problem by using an alternative immunoassay. If the specimen remains invalid, the donor may be subject to another test or other further evaluation, depending on the circumstances. Any further evaluation in response to the specimen's invalidity is intended to respond to any need the employer may have to obtain a "negative" drug test.
Lester, does this respond to your question?
