I'm now giving a different opinion. I've learned that, in this specific case, an opinion was sought from, and provided by, DOT. Based on the unavailability of a post-test external calibration test in this specific case, DOT has recommended cancellation of the test result in question. Essentially, DOT took the same approach as its Part 40 provision for cancellation of a non-negative drug test in the event of a request for split testing and an unavailable split. From a scientific viewpoint, I would argue that the unavailable split, or the unavailable external calibration test, does not necessarily nullify the previous result. But, policy matters, too, and if DOT won't stand behind the test, then neither should the employer or service agent.
