I have received a lab result positive for cocaine. When reviewing the COC before contacting the donor, I see the note that the temperature was out of range. The remarks say "small amount did not reach temperature indicator, amount tilted in cup yet did not change color." There is no mention of a second collection being requested under direct observation.
I have found that a second sample under direct observation was never requested by the collector. Do I call this an invalid test and request a new one under direct observation or do I treat this as a positive test and start the donor interview process?
The nursing supervisor is retraining the collector. Thank you.
