I would report the result as negative because the morphine level of 8000 ng/mL is not definitive evidence of use of prescription or illicit opiates. The donor's statement that he used a prescription opiate, and subsequent lack of follow-through, does not establish misuse of the prescription opiate, and is thus not cause for declaring the result verified positive. Alternatively, if there is clear documentation that the donor was asked to call the MRO back and failed to do so, the MRO could ask the employer representative to help expedite contact and if no contact occurs within 10 days, declare it "positive" but allow for reconsideration/re-review if/when the donor resurfaces and contacts the MRO.
