My group has recently decide to contract with a large national laboratory -- I have withheld its name for fear of any repercussions -- for its urine drug tests for our pain management patients.  They are charging a hefty fee "per provider training" in order to help them interpret the results.  I questioned them about having some of us who are MROs being exempt from this contractual agreement as we have proper training as certified MROs.  The laboratory's response was that MROs are not properly trained to interpret these non-DOT urine drug tests.  MROs are only needed for DOT and such federal testing; pain control management urine drug testing is different and we MROs don't know anything about that, hence even the MROs in our group have to have the training - at a hefty fee of course!  Is anyone else seeing this kind of action by larger laboratories, such disregard and lack of respect for our role in both federal and non federal drug testing?
