A local municipality in Connecticut is proposing random drug screening for all of its employees, current as well as new. This would go beyond the DOT testing authorized under the federal rules for employees driving certain large vehicles, e.g., highway, public works, etc. My concern is about a violation of the employees' right to privacy/protection against unreasonable searches. I realize this is a legal issue and am not asking legal advice, just wondering if other MROs have experienced broad-based random testing in their municipalities, and if they encountered any problems as a result.
