I know that urine alcohol collections are not permissible under DOT regulations.  I have a client that sent a donor to a collection site for a random drug test.  The collector did a urine drug test, checked the box “random” for the reason, and then  wrote "alcohol" on the line where it says “Other.”  The lab tested the sample for the 5-drug panel and for alcohol.  We are reconciling this client's random pool list.  What do we do about the urine alcohol test?  The regulations discuss the problems that cause a test to be cancelled for an alcohol test (49 CFR §40.269), and state what specimens are prohibited in §40.277.  But, in  §40.269 it talks about the BAT, STT, or employer cancelling the test.  Since the urine alcohol part of this collection was document on a drug test form, should it be the MRO cancelling the urine alcohol test, or would it be sufficient for the employer, BAT, or STT to cancel this test due to the collector error?  Help.
