The E-Screen Machine is a device that is designed to be a quick and easy onsite testing device. The idea is that if the donor has a negative E-Screen test, the result is available immediately, and the company can have the results very quickly. It is not approved and cannot be used with any Federally regulated testing. Any non-negative test is then sent to a lab (usually the lab controlled by E-Screen), for conformation testing. The negatives are that the hardware requires room in your office and a good reliable internet connection. The device sits on the counter, next to a computer monitor and I believe a printer as well. In the couple of offices where I worked and the device was used, it seemed that a relatively higher number of tests that went through E-Screen had to be sent to the lab for confirmation testing. Sometimes this was because of a bad or unreliable internet connection on our end and also on E-Screen's end as well. At one office about 20% of the specimens had to be sent into the lab for confirmation testing. Hopefully other users here can give you a more recent experience (mine was about 10 years ago), and hopefully E-Screen has worked out some of these problems.
