Hi! This question concerns a positive result for:
| Codeine 68771 ng/ml | |
| Morphine 2104 ng/ml |
The donor has given a written (copy) of a prescription for Percocet. Rev Swotinsky and Dr. Smith's book says on page 238 that there may be some cross-reactivity of the opiate immunoassay with oxycodone. (Apparently, a hydroxyl group on the oxycodone makes routine opiate assays less sensitive for this agent.) The book also says that "the prescription opiates (hydrocodone, hydromorphone, and oxycodone) can be difficult to separate chromatographically". So, could the Percocet have accounted for this result? Thanks for your input. David David A. Ragan, DO, MPH
