Out of range specimens are suspect bad but not convicting. The first specimen is also sent to the lab because it is sometimes positive, dilute to the point of substitution, or adulterated.  The observed specimen may legitimately have a different result than the first even if both are "good" specimens due to cut off levels and concentration (main reason why A and B bottles must come from same void).  The "worst" result of the "two" collections is reported.  It is NOT a refusal to test UNLESS one of results is adulterated or substituted or the donor fails to complete the collection despite warnings.
