As a full time MRO, I do not have data as to how many companies use this procedure. Secondly, unless your company has a stand down policy and procedure that is “blessed” by the DOT, any stand down procedures would be of your own company internal policies. I know of several companies who do this, and if the donor screens positive on an “instant” test, the specimen is sent to the a certified lab for testing, and the donor is put on temporary leave (either with or without pay – depending on the internal policies an procedures from the company) until the results are verified by the MRO.
