I spoken with donors in treatment facilities and jails (via phone). If you can get the case worker or jail personnel to help you make contact you can usually get the interview done. Was this a court ordered test or for employment? Are you the MRO for the treatment facility? It might make a difference how you handle it. If the donor is a minor and you have written consent that helps. If it is a job related test technically (maybe not in all States) you cannot necessarily include the parents w/o the donor's consent. As a parent I'd want to be included of course. I've never had a minor decline to allow their parent be on the phone at the same time. I also use the interview as a "teachable moment" to the donor about the risks of using drugs and the ramifications it can have for them--personally and in their future career endeavors. For the most part they seem to receive it well.
