I am the MRO for a collection site that is being named in a lawsuit over damages caused by an employee who underwent a federal drug test. I am not clear on the damage the individual suffered but I understand it resulted from being forced to comply with the shy bladder protocol when he wasn’t able to produce a sufficient quantity of urine. He states he began drinking water as directed and then developed diarrhea, dizziness and nausea. He asked to leave the collection site but was told that leaving would be considered a refusal to test. He eventually produced a sample and then went to the ER and was diagnosed with urinary retention and hyponatremia. Has anyone else heard of similar experiences with water intoxication from a drug test? According to his statement, he had consumed large amounts of water prior to the test and had no pre-existing conditions that would prevent him from initially giving a sufficient quantity specimen.
