Medical clearance for safety-sensitive job while on hydrocodone

Post by medicalreview » Fri Apr 29, 2016 10:51 am

I am the medical review officer and was asked to review a case for safety-sensitive work. This person originally was taking oxycodone every 6 hours which I did not clear. Then I received another request after this person went to their physician and was placed on Hysingla ER 40mg in the evening. My dilemma is hysingla is still hydrocodone as an extended release formulation. I still would not consider anyone taking hydrocodone during working hours safe let alone a hydrocodone formulation with a slow release bioavailability. I appreciate all comments and feedback from peers please..... :D :D :D :D

Also, thoughts regarding tizanidine????

Thank you!

As you've noted, from your perspective there is little distinction between use of oxycodone and use of hydrocodone. I'd want to know more about the safety-sensitivity of the job before advising further. If this person was inattentive or sleepy, what would the likely outcome at work be?
