In the nuclear industry at my site we collect 30 cc of urine. If the volume in under 30 cc, but 15 cc or over AND temperature below 90 the specimen is sent to lab and we proceed with an observed recollection. "The temperature strips are not certified for accuracy" ( Swotinsky ). Additionally the temperature strips are applied a bit haphazardly and 15 cc of urine does not always even hit the level of the temperature strip. As far as the DOT regs, if the volume is less than required a temperature out of range will lead to observed. As we know a significant number of donors cannot urinate while observed. Are any MRO's addressing this dilemma, that is, when temperature is low obviously because of low volume?
